the Ohio Third Frontier Fund. This shipment suc- cessfully completes Dyesol’s Inc’s first key deliverable to the DyeTec Solar program. In addition to provi- ding Dyesol’s specialized DSC equipment to support DyeTec Solar’s product development efforts and meet program goals, Dyesol has also relocated staff with DSC expertise into Toledo. Key management and technical resources from Dyesol Inc.’s California office were relocated to Toledo in May and have successfully completed the first phase of the pro- gram, enabling DyeTec to begin building prototype panels. The larger size prototype panels represent a significant advance on historical DSC products and help open up the vast opportunity of the built envi- ronment.

Furthermore: On August 10, 2011, the last 2 mile- stones were presented to the Welsh Government (WG) by the Dyesol-Tata team together with a short summary of the successful development of DSC on coil coated steel (‘DSC on Steel’).

The final milestones were:

• Completed study of process capabilities – a precursor to volume production, and

• A comprehensive review of Intellectual Property relevant to DSC on metal strip – demonstration of value generation from the £5M investment by the WG in the project.

Both technical milestones were approved and feed- back from the WG was that the project had made an excellent contribution to science and technology in Wales. A major factor in their judgement was the technical progress made over the 3 year period and the commitment from both Tata and Dyesol to invest

in employment opportunities in Wales, as reflected in the project resourcing, which has risen from 15 scientists and engineers at the start of the project, to 40 currently. Plans to increase resourcing to 50 this year were presented.

ecently, Exilica, U.K., and Seven Scent sign a Joint Development Agreement that exclusively

links Exilica‘s µ-Sq beads with Seven Scent fine fragrances in terms of the use of the beads as fine fragrance carriers in thermoplastics and liquid poly- mers. Incorporated in 2005, Exilica Limited is a UK university spin-out company that was established to exploit the production and use of micrometer-sized spherical polymer particles (called µ-Sq beads) and sub-micrometer sized hollow silica shells. Exilica currently manufactures R&D scale amounts of its two products and engages in joint collaborative projects with large multi-national companies with the aim of developing new innovative products that utilise the company’s technologies.
