PATIENT

SAFETY

With patient safety being the top priority for all healthcare facilities, this year’s Patient Safety Congress features a new format, which recognises the importance of working together across sectors with two conference streams– the 7th Middle East Healthcare Associated Infections Conference and the 6th Middle East CSSD Decontamination & Sterilisation Conference. Both streams take place over the three days and offer delegates insights from both local and international speakers on a diverse range of topics.

7th Middle East Healthcare Associated Infections Conference 23-25 October

The focus of the conference is on epidemiology and surveillance along with looking at infection control programmes in the healthcare arena. Delegates will discuss topics such as ‘Current concepts for MRSA prevention’ and explore new technologies for detecting and preventing healthcare-associated infections. The conference will also aim to identify the steps needed towards a UAE national antibiotic resistance surveillance system and review what has been done so far. Panel discussions and clinical case study presentations will be included in this conference to fur ther enhance learning.

A note from the chair:

“Healthcare associated infections are a major cause of morbidity and mortality in all parts of the world. There is, however, a growing unwillingness of payers, patients and safety advocates to accept healthcare infections as inevitable and a new culture of zero tolerance is emerging. To meet these objectives, a number of policies and procedures have been introduced as bundles and their implementation and compliance is being continuously monitored and effect on infection rates documented.

Compliance with some bundles has shown remarkable results. The Healthcare Associate Infections

conference will provide an opportunity to review the latest guidelines for prevention and control of these infections. It will not only provide an opportunity to interact with experts in the field but also a platform to share individual experiences in overcoming existing problems and planning to tackle emerging issues.”
