 ‘Cell Saver Device’ installed in Bahrain

BAHRAIN’S WORLD-CLASS German Orthopaedic Hospital has invested in a highly sophisticated ‘Cell Saver Device’ that collects, cleans and returns blood lost in surgery to the patient; a first of its kind in Orthopaedic care in Bahrain. With this device, “Patients don’t need to use donated blood, so the risks of receiving tainted blood and infections such as HIV or Hepatitis are eliminated,” said Professor Dr. Heinz Roettinger, the founder of the German Orthopaedic Hospital. He also explained that, “by using the patient’s own blood there is also no antibody reaction. And, even in emergency cases the patient’s own blood is available.” The Cell Saver Device works by

like diverting the blood flow, reenergizing it and then bringing it back into the circulatory system,” said Dr Roettinger. An official at Bahrain’s Blood Bank

confirms that the country is discouraging the establishment of private blood banks to avoid turning the humanitarian effort into a business. With this directive, a device such as the Cell Saver Device becomes even more crucial in assuring patients of the availability of their own blood type. A centre for excellence for MIS

(Minimal Invasive Surgery) Dr. Roettinger’s strong ‘patient-centric’ approach to treatment ensures patients suffer less pain and less blood loss. And now, with the new Cell Saver Device, recovery times are even further enhanced. As Dr. Roettinger explained, “With minimal blood loss and the availability of fresh, vital, clean red blood cells without storage, the patient’s recovery process is also greatly improved.” ■
