RECOMMENDED: RUNE FACTORY 3 / DANCE! IT’S YOUR STAGE Rune Factory 3: A Fantasy Harvest Moon

The farming and fighting RPG franchise gets another DS release with new online play. Dominic Sacco finds out more Released:

RUNE FACTORY is a prime example of how to take an existing popular franchise and create a separate spin-off brand that stands up on its own. In this case, take the renowned Harvest Moonfarming RPG and add combat, dungeons and monsters et violà – you have Rune Factory. As the third full DS game in the series, Rune Factory 3again puts

players in the shoes of a young man who has lost his memory, finds himself in a village and must look after the town’s farm.

This time, other characters can help the game’s protagonist fight monsters, whether it’s computer- controlled villagers or up to three other players via multiplayer.

Rising Star Games is promoting the title to farming, casual and RPG fans online with banners and social network activity.

“This game really straddles many genres and can appeal to all,” says Rising Star Games’ product manager Yen Hau. “But we will also be looking at pushing the message across to all Nintendo DS owners and placing an

emphasis on the collectability of the animals you can tame. “Rune Factoryhas become popular enough to be classed as its own series, not having to rely on Harvest Moonbrand recognition. It is always in demand and is one of the most engrossing RPG games you will experience on the DS.”
