1967 CORVETTE CONVERTIBLE “I was at the Tastee Freez in South Hill [Va. in 1970] and a state trooper pulled up. He’d been chasing me

for years and I had a Corvette with side pipes on it. He said, ‘Te best thing for you to do is leave Virginia and don’t come back.’ So 15 years went by and they called me one day and wanted me to come back to the little town I was from to help raise money for the high school and be the chairman of the harvest festival parade. I said, ‘I’ll do it on one condition: the state trooper (George Basdikis) drives me in the convertible.’ He told me I was never gonna amount to anything, was always gonna be in trouble and don’t come back to Virginia. “He and I are good friends now. He’s retired from the state troopers. He drew me a postcard of a state

trooper writing me a ticket and I told him, ‘Te only problem is you never could catch me.’ “I’m really tight with the NCRS (National Corvette Restorers Society) because I think I have one of the

biggest Corvette collections in the country. Tey have events here. “Tese cars with the stinger hoods are all ’67s. I’ve got one photo where I’ve put them all nose to nose and opened the hoods, where you see all those stingers, and there’s been some paintings done of that.”
