Refresher Course
It is absolutely refreshing and
wonderful to see so many new faces in victory lane this year. The last few years, it was getting boring watching the same drivers and cars leading and winning week after week. I’ve been a NASCAR fan for
a very long time and I believe the changes NASCAR has made to make things more competitive have proven to do just that. Good job, NASCAR. BABS WEST, Bridgeport, Ohio
NO THANKS I was very offended by
the invocation delivered by pastor Joe Nelms before the Nationwide Series race at Nashville Superspeedway. Prerace invocations are meant to give thanks to God for His blessings and asking for His forgiveness and protection. Instead, Nelms made it sound like the dinnertime prayer scene from “Talladega Nights.” Some people may have been
amused by it but I sure wasn’t. It was without a doubt the most disrespectful invocation I have ever
heard in all the years I have been a NASCAR fan. GLENN RICE, Cookeville, Tenn.
WHAT A PUSHOVER The fi nish of the Nationwide
race at Iowa Speedway was spectacular. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. was leading with Carl Edwards behind him when Stenhouse’s engine blew up. Edwards slammed into the back of Stenhouse and

pushed his Roush Fenway Racing teammate across the fi nish line. Not only was the race
great, but it was nice to see a Nationwide regular win — as opposed to a Cup driver. FRED SLURFF JR., Rotterdam, N.Y.
SAME OLD JUNIOR Wow, Dale Earnhardt Jr.
manages to stay in the top 10 for the fi rst half of the season and it is called a “rebirth.” I think it is great to see some consistency with the No. 88 team, but I still see the same Junior — a driver who lacks enthusiasm and is not media friendly. The reason he remains so
popular is because of his last name. It is time for NASCAR Illustrated and every other NASCAR media outlet to take an objective look at Junior’s career. MICHAEL LESLIE, Plano, Texas

Richard Childress in going after Kyle Busch forgotten who drove the No. 3 car for Childress? Dale Earnhardt Sr. was the king of destroying other people’s equipment. Now, Childress acts like a big baby if someone touches one of his cars. Richard, just admit it. Busch
has more talent than all your drivers put together. KENNETH WATTS, Hickory, N.C.
LAUGHING MATTER I laughed out loud when I
heard Richard Childress make a statement accusing Kyle Busch of wrecking Childress’ cars. I think “Paw Paw’s” memory is
slipping. Look at how many cars his past and present drivers have wrecked. His drivers have always raced by the motto: “If I can’t beat you, I’ll wreck you.” FRANK ECCLES, Theodore, Ala.
HARD KNOCKS I am tired of drivers whining about being raced hard. Go
