s this issue went to press, two drivers were enjoying hot streaks. Brad Keselowski pushed through the pain of a broken ankle for consecutive fi rst, second and third-place fi nishes (for more on driving hurt, turn to page 60). Meanwhile, Marcos Ambrose ripped off two road-course wins in six days. Both streaks were less than a month old, but in NASCAR, where wins are hard-fought and advantages are
measured in hours instead of days, any momentum counts. T is season, we’ve seen Carl Edwards, Kurt Busch and Kevin Harvick reel off a few weeks of championship-caliber
runs. But of course, it can desert a driver as quickly as it appears. T at’s certainly something Kasey Kahne knows. In 2006, he was more or less unbeatable on
intermediate tracks. But he has paid for it since. With a rotating cast of owners and constant behind- closed-doors drama, Kahne hasn’t had a stable platform since that magical season. His one-year “externship” at Red Bull this year is just the last example of the instability he’s fought. But this month’s cover story looks at what’s in store for Kahne. Once he moves to Hendrick
