INDUSTRY NEWS Where’s Watty? A
fter a competition was launched in their newsletter last year, Little Watty Baxter was the name chosen for the Baxi-SenerTec UK badger which appears on the company logo. Short for ‘Little Walter’, it was thought that Little Watty reflects the emphasis of the business being represented, which is Combined Heat and Power (CHP), both of which have the unit ‘Watt’. Little Watty is very inquisitive about all things low carbon and has been finding out from people and companies all over the world how he might reduce his carbon pawprint (he obviously travels using the most energy efficient methods!) He even takes photographs of all the places he visits. Unfortunately, he can get so excited talking to people that he forgets to label his pictures!
Competition
In each issue of BSEE, we will be featuring a different photograph of the audacious Little Watty Baxter and asking you to work out where he is.
This month, Little Watty
travelled to a residence fit for a Queen and, after walking a whole mile, decided to rest on a seat belonging to someone named Arthur! To be in with a chance of winning your very own cuddly Little Watty Baxter, simply look at the photograph and tell us the name of the building he is looking at.
Please email your answers to:
trushtonthorpe@datateam.co.uk The winner will be chosen at
random and will receive a cuddly badger. The closing date for this competition is 01 October 2011.
Funding opportunities from JIP
More than 1,800 training opportunities will be available to employers in the building services engineering (BSE) sector over the next year, courtesy of SummitSkills and the Joint Investment Programme. These opportunities for employers to invest in the future of their employees through accredited training are being provided between September 2011 and July 2012. “Increasing the employability of the existing and future workforce in our sector is
paramount to its success. To be able to deliver the Government’s low carbon agenda, it is vital for employers to engage their workforce in training for the future and growing their company’s technological expertise,” comments Bob Blake, Operations Manager at SummitSkills.
Safeguard standards
Over the past 12 months, as part of its on-going work to safeguard standards and enhance expertise in the sector, SummitSkills has already offered up to 900 opportunities for existing workers or newcomers to the sector to acquire new skills and expand their knowledge in environmental technologies, through the Joint Investment Programme. The programme enables employers and training providers to receive up to 50% of
their training costs. SummitSkills is encouraging employers to take advantage of the opportunity to train their workforce in areas which enable them to meet industry- specific competent person scheme (CPS) requirements and for installers to qualify for registration with the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS). Registration with the MCS is likely to become increasingly important for employers, as it will enable householders looking to install environmental technologies to easily separate the rogue traders from the quality installers.
