INSTALLATION NEWS Flying high with latest project
Engineers from building services firm EIC have been appointed to a £2.1m contract for a state-of-the-art research and development facility for aerospace contractor Moog. EIC will install mechanical services at the purpose-built, two-storey office, and single- storey production and warehouse building, at the i54 Business Park in Wolverhampton. The six-month mechanical project is part of the £14m, 190,000sq ft first phase of development for Moog, which manufactures aircraft controls. EIC, based in Alcester, was appointed by the main contractor McLaren Construction Group and will work closely with McLaren and the developer Stoford to ensure the timely and cost effective delivery of the contract by November 2011.
Challenging programme
EIC’s engineered building services team will undertake the works, which includes subcontracted design and build for all mechanical services including air conditioning, heating and ventilation, public
health and process engineering services. Ian Lyall, joint Managing Director for EIC,
said: “This is an extraordinary facility and we are delighted to be a part of its development. The mechanical project itself is a large and complex one with a challenging programme, so it is great to have been recognised for our knowledge and expertise in the sector. We are looking forward to getting started.”
Moog is set to relocate its flight controls
operation from its existing base in nearby Wobaston Road by September 2012 in a move that will safeguard around 400 jobs. The project has been supported by Wolverhampton City Council, Advantage West Midlands and Fusion Building Consultancy.
This is the second project that EIC has been appointed to by the McLaren Construction Group, following the successful delivery of the flagship Zero Carbon Tesco store in Bourne, Lincolnshire, which opened to the public in February.
Silence is golden
Regupol 4515 Eco, a rubber and cork acoustic underlayment, has been installed in Pacific Court the second phase of apartments to be released at Berkeley Homes development, Caspian Wharf in Bow to provide cost effective impact sound insulation. Compatible with a range of floor finishes and underfloor heating systems, Regupol 4515 Eco delivered Part E compliant acoustic dampening beneath carpet and vinyl flooring. In an effort to regenerate London’s
waterways, the Berkeley development was intended to serve the housing needs of business professionals by exemplifying the highest in quality of living. As excess impact sound transfer can cause considerable discomfort to residents in lower level apartments, the remit included the provision of an acoustically sound environment. Comprising of studio, one, two and three bedroom apartments and penthouses, it was vital that any acoustic solution selected was suitable for use in a broad range of applications.
Versatile product
Specified to satisfy Part E requirements, flooring contractor, Loughton Contracts installed 4,000sq m of 4.5mm Regupol 4515 Eco with water based acrylic dispersion Regubond 100 in 171 apartments. Applied beneath vinyl and carpet flooring in all dwellings, the robust acoustic underlay delivers acoustic attenuation under a range of floor finishes. In addition, system performance is retained even with the use of underfloor heating, making Regupol 4515 Eco one of the most versatile acoustic products on the market.
Effectively minimising impact energy
transfer by attenuating the sound at source, Regupol 4515 Eco offers long term performance without the risk of collapse under high point loads. Manufactured from 100% recycled and recyclable material, it generates zero ozone depletion potential (ODP) and zero global warming potential (GWP).
As a sustainable yet cost
competitive acoustic solution, Regupol 4515 Eco is an attractive proposition for developers aiming to satisfy strict Code for Sustainable Homes (CfSH) criteria. Chan Sau, Divisional Manager for Loughton Contracts, explained: “Regupol 4515 Eco met all of the client’s acoustic requirements in one convenient product and thanks to our positive experience at Pacific Court, we will be using the product in further phases of the Caspian Wharf development.” Paul Absolon, Technical Director for CMS Acoustics, concluded: “In high rise new builds achieving Part E compliance without sacrificing room height is crucial. With guaranteed thicknesses, Regupol 4515 Eco helps maximise ceiling heights to ensure best possible use of the available space.”
