INSTALLATION NEWS Tyco escapes to the country
A complete underfloor heating system from Tyco Thermal Controls is providing the ultimate in luxury heating for guests at the prestigious London Syon Park, a Waldorf Astoria hotel. London Syon Park sits at the edge of the two hundred acre Syon House estate, a unique setting that has served as the country home of the Duke of Northumberland for over 400 years. Its 137 rooms and seven luxury suites boast the ultimate in luxury for guests, which combine with the finest traditions of a country house estate to make this a truly unforgettable experience.
With such a prestigious project, there could be no room for error which is why the Raychem intelligent underfloor heating system was specified for the guest bedrooms throughout the hotel.
Heat adjustment
The T2Red, self-regulating system offers increased comfort while saving on heating costs, is easy to install and is suitable for all floor types. It works by sensing other heat sources in the room, such as solar radiation and automatically adjusting its heat output accordingly. A number of different systems were installed throughout the hotel to
achieve maximum comfort and efficiency. T2Red with T2Reflecta was installed in the bedrooms and combines the self-regulating heating
cable with a pre-grooved aluminium covered insulation profile to reduce heat losses and provide increased energy efficiency and an even heat distribution throughout the room. In the luxurious bathrooms, T2Quicknet 160, a thin self-adhesive heating mat was used as it provides fast heat up time, and at only 3mm thick is ideal for installation under tiled floors.
Smart solution
Guests who visit the sumptuous Kallima Spa at the hotel are also in for a treat following the installation of Raychem T2 Isolecta insulation board, combined with T2Quicknet 160 to offer an energy efficient, smart solution.
Jonathan Jones of Tyco Thermal Controls says: “The London Syon Park hotel is a very prestigious
development and understandably the developers were looking for a smart heating solution which would provide the high levels of comfort which the guests would expect. “The installation of our range of underfloor solutions together with our smart thermostats means that the hotel now has a reliable, energy efficient solution which will allow the guests to immerse themselves in the luxury which this country retreat offers.” Guests at the London Syon Park will also have access to most of the 200 acre estate which looks out across the river Thames to nearby Kew Gardens.

The indoor tennis centre at The Warwick University is the first leisure centre in the UK to receive an ‘excellent’ BREEAM rating. Constructed to minimise impact on the environment, but also to meet the exacting standards of the Lawn Tennis Association, the centre features natural ventilation for environmental efficiency and the ABR- SPORT luminaire from Ridi for high performance, robust lighting. Part-funded by the Lawn
Tennis
Association and Sport England West Midlands, the centre provides four indoor courts for use by students, staff, county tennis players, as well as the general public. Located on the University’s Westwood Campus, the centre is the first of its kind in Coventry and Warwickshire to offer access to the public without having to take up a membership. A reception area, a spectator gallery, offices and changing facilities complement the excellent court facilities.
Built at a cost of £2.5m, the building was designed by architects,
Berman Guedes Stretton, with the electrical design carried out by Gary Price in the University’s estates office. Gary says: “We’ve used a lot of Ridi luminaires around the university campus so I had no hesitation in choosing the ABR-SPORT for the indoor tennis centre. The sleek look of the luminaire fits in comfortably with the interior of the centre and the specification and performance is perfectly suited to the requirements of indoor tennis.” The ABR-SPORT is fitted with a specially manufactured white steel reinforced, crossblade louvre that complies with DIN 18032 Part3 - a German sports hall lighting standard for which there is no UK equivalent. This standard includes full ball impact testing to destruction, making it the perfect solution for indoor racket sports and ball games. Positioned to achieve optimum light levels over the courts, the luminaires are installed in suspended and cambered runs between the courts using Ridi’s TRAS purpose made trunking system.
