DESIGN

“Of course we were inspired by the cockpits of modern jets, but Christopher Ward wanted to create something that was more interesting, less purely workmanlike, yet which retained its functionality”

The clear and clean face design carries enlarged numerals, broad luminescent hands and a fine second hand. The numerals, markers and the tips of the hands are in SuperLuminova white. The result is to guarantee maximum visibility whatever the conditions, from the dazzling sunshine of high noon to the blackness of a moonless midnight. A discreet date window is at the 4 o’clock position while a tiny flash of red at 3 o’clock is the only colour on the bold monochrome dial. This red mark is found on an altimeter. You might have to blink twice to convince yourself that this handsome new dial is, in fact, covered. Christopher Ward has used fine museum-grade crystal, derived from polished sapphire crystal, which is so transparent and free of reflections that it almost appears invisible. Another benefit of this anti-glare quality is that it makes the black of the dial appear as a much more

intense black, giving an even better ground for the numerals, markers and the sweep of the hands.

The C11 MSL Mk1 Chronograph,

powered by a Ronda Caliber 5030.D, features a stopwatch and ADD and SPLIT time chronograph functions. The C11 Automatic uses a Sellita SW200-1 movement. On the closed back case the motto

Reach for the Stars is the inspiring Latin motto on the reverse of the C11. The back features the stylised outline of a modern jet fighter and four screws that mirror the four on the front of the case.

“Pervenio Pro Astrum” – Latin for “Reach for the Stars” – is engraved on a raised coin-effect panel that has the outline of a jet fighter at its centre. Both the C11 Automatic (£399) and the C11 Chronograph (£350) are hand- assembled in Switzerland and are available with luxurious leather straps in brown or black with chrome finish traditional buckle. Two decorative screws on the buckle provide a pleasing symmetry to the screws at the four corners of the case.

This is a brilliant new watch that will surely appeal to confident high-flyers.
