‘My five faves’ Rob Cherry spotlights his five particular favourites from his collection.
1 Christopher Ward C40 Speedhawk I bought this second-hand in 2010 from another CW Forum member in the Czech Republic. It was only three months old. I tend to be quite instinctive about what I like, but had dithered and then found this model was out of stock. I was attracted to the red and white detailing, which is reminiscent of the dials of a racing car. It’s an unusual colour combination for a watch and I am very glad I managed to get hold of it.
2 Christopher Ward C20 Lido
This is probably my favourite of all my 36 watches. It was the second Limited Edition for CW Forum members in 2010 and it was the first time I’d been involved, albeit peripherally, in the design process. I really like the contrast between the elegant white face and the hands and indices, which look black but are actually an intense deep blue. You can see this when the light hits them in a different way. It looks expensive, but being from Christopher Ward, it’s not.

3 Oris Diver - Small Seconds / Date I seem to have quite a few watches in black and orange colour combinations. This one was my present to myself when my five-year contract was renewed in 2009. With a 47mm face it’s the largest watch I have and it’s also the thickest at 16mm. It has a wave pattern on the dial and it is tested to 1000m but as I don’t even like swimming, I’ll never use it to its full potential. I just love this watch and it’s the one I go to when I want something that will impress non-watch collectors.
4 Omega Speedmaster Professional “The Moon Watch” I acquired this one in late 2009. It’s a limited edition of just 1,957 models from 2007 for the 50th anniversary of the Speedmaster Professional watch and carries a little gold emblem of a ‘hippocampus’ (literally a ‘seahorse’), hence its collectors’ nickname of The Gold Patch. The Omega logo is in red, otherwise everything is in stark, clean black and white. And although it’s got a chronograph function, it doesn’t have a date. I got this from a dealer in The City with a fantastic £750 off but the £1800 I paid for it is still the most I have spent on a watch.

5 Christopher Ward C60 Kingfisher Diver Pro-Automatic This was the CW Forum’s first Limited Edition, which was released in late 2009. I was a bit late getting round to buying one, but after an email to Chris Ward I managed to get one that had been in his safe for six months. In which other company could you talk directly to the boss to get a watch? This appeals to me because it is such an unusual colour. The kingfisher blue dial has a marvellous iridescent quality and it goes with everything.
