Husband and wife Eric and Jane Musgrave are freelance writers, but are they on the same page when it comes to watches? As Christopher Ward increases its women’s watch selection, the pair swap notes on a selection of styles for both sexes that have caught their eye from the new Autumn 2011 collection.

Jane: This is a very appealing traditional style that I could wear virtually anywhere with great deal of confidence. It’s functional, clean and classy. I could wear this with jeans and with a suit too. I prefer Arabic numerals to Roman ones for the ease of reading them. The plain black leather strap goes with everything.
Eric: Jane likes a simple, classic watch, so she’d love this one. She likes a watch to do its principal job easily, so she will prefer these numbers to Roman numerals. As she is always a bit vague about what day it is, a date might be welcome, but this is a very handsome watch which would be a big hit with her, I reckon.

N22 CHR SWS Jane: This is a really appealing
substantial, contemporary watch. The bracelet really works with the design of the face. The chronograph features look good to me and would fuel my fantasies that I am a successful international tycoon, although in reality I would never use them! I reckon this watch would be noticed and admired by men in particular.
Eric: While I’d like to see Jane in something like this, I suspect she might find it all a bit too masculine and technical. I think she’d like the completeness of the design, and would probably like the interesting profile of the strap, but somehow I can’t see her wearing this one.

Jane: This watch is very feminine without being girly, although I wouldn’t want the bracelet to be any narrower. My regular jewellery, especially my wedding and engagement rings, and my favourite earrings, are gold, so this would be an appropriate watch for me. While it’s obviously dressy, I would happily wear this tank style on most days and with most outfits.

Eric: As she’s a red head with pale skin, the gold might work well for Jane. I am sure she would like the classic, even iconic, look of this watch, but it may be just a bit too small for her. She has never been happy with a small watch face and I know she’s not a huge fan of bracelets.
