ROB CHERRY WAS BITTEN BY THE WATCH BUG ONLY RECENTLY. THE CW FORUM HAS BEEN INSTRUMENTAL IN TURNING AN INTEREST INTO A PASSION.

ob Cherry is a newcomer to watch collecting, but he certainly displays the zeal of the converted. He’s actually been even busier than he thinks. During our interview for the Christopher Ward magazine, he was sure he had started building his impressive timepiece portfolio in 2005. In fact, when he checked, the first arrival dates back only to 2008, so he really has been busy during the past three years as he now has 36 models listed in his collection, including seven Christopher Ward specimens. (Generous chap that he is, Rob has also bought four more CW watches as presents). The watch that spurred this latent interest was a Hamilton Air Race GMT, which was bought for his 43rd birthday in 2008 by his Australian wife Natalie. “I’d always liked watches as a men’s accessory, but I’d grown up as a teenager in the early 1980s when it was the age of the plastic watch for £18 that you threw away instead of changing the battery,” Rob recalls. “As I got older I began to take more notice of them.
