Bring on the Bling! Crystals, and mirrors, and orchids—oh my!

“Platinum Weddings” featured Planner Tiffany Nieves shares her own wedding planning journey in a special 3-part series.

Itʼs hard to believe it has been a few months since the wedding. I mean just as I got used to being a fiancée and bride, poof Iʼm now a wife. In fact, it dawned on me recently that we are still newlyweds, and how much I get a kick out of saying ―this is my H U S B A N D.‖ Husband--wow he really is my husband-- how cool! It has been quite the whirlwind – between planning my own wedding, in between back to back client weddings -- the past six months have been a blur. Looking back, it was indeed one of the most spectacular days of my life and I was a nervous wreck...yep, there I said it --for those of you who have asked and wondered. But more on that later.

I mentioned in my first segment that one of my biggest challenges was décor. I had done so much with design for clients that trying to design something that was very me (oops, us) yet sparkly fresh and still have the ʻOld Hollywood Glamourous‖ feel was tough. I wanted every element of our

wedding to be like nothing I had ever done before--think Platinum Weddings to the next dimension.

I always say design is a process; it often takes on a life of its own and it did just that. I looked online and my other normal outlets for inspiration, and nothing. I searched magazines and old Hollywood movie photos, still nothing (although Iʼm now convinced I was a cross between Eva Gardner and Grace Kelly in another life).

Then suddenly it hit me, that inspirational spark that had been elusive. I saw a photo of a crystal staircase I fell in love with in Paris. I saw it at the Swarovski Crystal store while strolling down the Champs Elysees with my fiancé. It was the inspiration I was looking for and I immediately went to work on the design with my sketch pad, and built much of the decor around this element. I wanted to incorporate the sparkle of crystal (AKA ―bling‖) throughout the entire ceremony and reception. But how to pull this off without it being gaudy and over done?
