She said yes, now what?

Ideas & Advice for Grooms

The Groom’s Checklist

Let’s be honest—if you’re like most grooms, you’re not quite as invested in wedding planning as your fiancée. That’s ok. She’s been planning this day her whole life — you’ve been planning it since she said yes. So what tasks should really be on the top of your list?

#1—anything your beautiful bride asks you to do! That is always the most important item on your checklist. She is juggling a lot so this is the best way to keep her out of the bridezilla zone. Now for the rest:

#2—assist in selecting the date and venue. You’ll also need to help figure out the budget which may mean checking with your parents to see if they will be contributing to the wedding, as well as checking your own finances to see what you and your bride will pay for.

#3—choose your Best Man and Groomsmen. Think about your choices. Some may be obvious but you don’t necessarily have to ask your college friend you haven’t seen in 10 years just because you were in his first wedding.

#4—after consulting with your bride, select what you and your guys will be wearing.

#5—organize your guest list. Work with your parents to create a complete list (with addresses!!) and give to your bride in an easy to read Excel spreadsheet. Yes, there will be typing involved.

#6—assist in selecting the entertainment and music list. Keep it clean—grandma is coming.

#7—assist in selecting the menu. Not too messy though—your bride is wearing white.

#8—with your parents, plan the rehearsal dinner (but consult the bride on this too).

#9—make sure your groomsmen have their tuxes/suits and are on time for the wedding.

#10—plan the honeymoon. Yup-your job! And of course, when in doubt, return to #1.
