GALLERY RIFLE & PISTOL NEWS

Gallery Rifle Equipment

Over the next few months, I’m going to take a look at some of the new equipment that’s available for Gallery Rifle (and pistol) shooters and also get you to ask yourselves whether or not you have set up your rifles or pistols properly, or would a few simple changes be all that is needed to help take your shooting to the next level.

Starting off with something new this month then - the 10/22 style X Ring receivers from Tactical Solutions in the U.S.A. The TacSol team are based in Boise, Idaho and I was lucky enough to shoot with some of them and be given a tour of their factory back in 2008. They are an extremely friendly bunch of people who are very passionate about their products and these include dedicated AR rimfire uppers, 1911 and Glock conversions, and of course their X Rings receivers!

A few minor changes have been made to the X Ring since I last shot one but the two main attractions for me remain the same, which is the looks and the twin rail system that it utilises. Starting on the outside, the first thing that you notice is the quality of both the machining and anodising and they are available in matt and gloss black, silver, olive drab green, red and electric blue. The colours are vivid (especially the blue) and really help set the X Ring apart from some of the dull and lifeless colours that are currently available on the market.

The receiver is machined out of 6061 T6 alloy billet and incorporates a low integral 15 MOA Picatinny rail, which will give both target shooters and hunters alike a lot more adjustment on their scopes when shooting at the longer ranges. The rail’s best feature is the fact that it’s set fully to the rear and it also extends around an inch or so forwards at the front of the action, giving the shooter far more versatility to mount their scope in the correct position.

Most shooters have probably had to compromise at some time or another in achieving the proper eye relief required because either the turret or bell of the scope has limited its mounting point but, this should never be an issue with the X Ring’s
