they find the choice unsuitable for them. Bisley Live will enable people to feel what it is like to fire a given calibre before they part with any cash.”
David added that the southeast of England has needed an event like this for years.
“Bisley’s access and proximity to London will give many thousands of people the opportunity to visit the historic home of shooting. Countless people are unable to visit the summer game fairs, be they gamekeepers, roe stalkers or simply families with holiday commitments. The timing of the event will allow shooters the opportunity to include a game fair in their annual calendar.”
The National Shooting Centre’s managing director Jeremy Staples said he was thrilled to be involved in the project.
“The National Shooting Centre at Bisley is the only venue in the UK that can host a show like this. In the past, I have been approached by numerous event companies, but I was particularly impressed with the Bisley Live concept. The team understand exactly what shooters want – not only are they offering shooters a ‘try before you buy‘ facility but they have avoided hosting the show when gamekeepers are at their busiest rearing poults in the summer.”
One of Britain’s best shots, sporting journalist Mike Yardley, is sitting on the advisory committee to help with planning the event. He has been target shooting at Bisley all his life with rifle, pistol and shotgun.
“The concept of Bisley Live is so exciting and seemingly obvious – it’s amazing that it has not been done before,” he said, adding that the camp at Bisley is a unique national treasure.
“The marvelous imperial atmosphere is unmatched. To create something like this specifically for sporting shooters is something that should have been done long ago. I am sure the inaugural event will attract enormous interest with many exhibitors and visitors. Even with prevailing economic conditions, to add a ‘try before you buy’ element into the equation is likely to make it all the more successful.”

There will also be a 3 day Open Day running alongside the show and I’ll let you know more about that next month. Details will be on our website soon.
Hope to see some of you there, pop along to the NRA stand and say hello.

Range Closure – act now!
Without ranges, there cannot be any target shooting. New rifle ranges rarely open these days but they continue to close.
We have received a message from John Fitzgerald, Chairman of the New South Wales Rifle Association about Anzac Rifle Range in Sydney – the largest in the southern hemisphere - which is facing closure at the end of October - he tells us that it is not yet a ‘done deal’ but looking grim.
The Australian Government, far from supporting the safest sport of all, has notified it will lock the gates on 31 October 2011. The ANZAC RIFLE RANGE MALABAR NSW AUSTRALIA and thousands of shooters are finished.
