This event originated with the growing popularity of LBR and has attracted an increased interest following the introduction of the LBP class; the match is designed to test an all-round set of handgun handling and shooting skills - sorry no GRCF or GRSB classes.

Having developed a suitably accurate target load, I examined the three-stage 50 round course of fire, fitted a red dot sight atop my revolver and commenced practice on Stage One. Did I enjoy the match? Yes - and where did I finish? Half way up the scoreboard, which I consider a reasonable debut. I do need to find an extra 30 points or more if I am to challenge for a medal place as the match is shot as an open event, if it starts to attract a popular following it may be considered for classification. A particular feature of the match is the concept of an overall time allowance, requiring competitors to pace their shooting and reloading without reference to a clock. Shooters can request a time check once during the match but most left it to the pause between stages 2 and 3 when only ten shots remained. I found the time allowance to be generous but at least one shooter on my detail had shots remaining when time was called. Another feature is that all the rounds shot must be carried loose on the person with the exception of a single speed-loader (essential for the rapid stage) and the recovery of dropped rounds is not permitted.

GR Website. Currently the event is only available at the spring and autumn shoots at Bisley so plenty of time to rehearse before October – why not have a go?
