Major Contract Award for the Rehabilitation of Water Injection Plants in Iraq

Weir Oil & Gas, Dubai has been awarded a major contract in Iraq

for the rehabilitation of the Zubair Field water injection plants. The equipment includes the water injection pumps, motors, gearboxes and valves. The scope also includes upgrading of the control equipment. In order to meet the customer’s needs, Weir engineers managed to get three of the seven water injection sets running on site –

16

units that had not run since the second Gulf War in Iraq. In winning this work, Weir focused

on the key needs of the customer – to get water injection into the reservoir. This meant working in-country with a project team led by Kenny Scott – a long-serving Weir Service Project Man- ager, and the setting up of an in-country workshop. The project is expected to complete in December 2011.

Weir in Dubai has been operating

in Iraq for a number of years servicing water injection and oil export plant. When the International Oil Company entered Iraq in mid-2010, Weir was on hand to help get equipment running that had not been in service since 2003. This included not only traditional

Weir equipment but also the gas turbine engines that drive the oil export pumps that deliver Iraq’s oil to the market.
