Weir increases global capability with Korean acquisition

HIM Tech Co Ltd, a South Korean valves business, becomes the latest manifestation of the Weir strategic commitment to global capability following acquisition of the Ansan-based business in June. Weir agreed to acquire 60% of a new Korean company, Weir International, into which the HIM Tech valves business has been transferred. The business employs 54 people in a

It supplies customers in the domestic market, but also supplies major South Korean engineering contractors for international projects. The company was founded by Mr Heang Hoon Cho who will continue to lead the company as President of Weir International. Chief Executive Keith Cochrane

explains the strategic fit of the new addition to the Group, “South Korea is one of the ‘Next 11’ high growth economies. Having a strong presence here increases our global capability, allowing us to serve the domestic

Korean market, and strengthen customer relationships with important Korean contractors who supply international markets as well. Having worked with the HIM Tech team for a number of years, we have a good knowledge of the business.” “I have worked with Weir for 17 years, first as an agent and then as a licensee and I am delighted that we are becoming part of the Group,” says Hean Hoon Cho, President of Weir International, “The acquisition opens many new avenues to expand the business both in Korea and with Korean customers worldwide.”
