Following the acquisition of Origa by Parker, Micromech has been appointed the UK distributor for its new generation of linear drives. This is Parker Origa’s second gen- eration of linear drives. The Origa cylinder is now a combined linear actuator, guidance and control package. This is the foundation for the Origa System Plus linear drive system of actuators and linear dri- ves offering complete flexibility for design engineers.

The CBI has welcomed an announcement by BMW that it will invest £500 million towards the production of the next generation of the Mini in the UK, safeguarding 5,000 jobs. Precision press firm stamps its mark

A provider of high speed-preci- sion stamping presses has received the largest order in its 43-year history. Bruderer UK, will supply its BSTA 510-125B2 and BSTA 280-88B2 models to precision pressworker Brandauer in a deal worth £750,000. The contract will see the machines delivered and installed by April next year and helps the company head towards the £3m annual sales mark in 2011.
The two precision high speed stamping machines will help Brandauer increase capacity, improve accuracy and also help it open up a host of new markets. Once up and running, they will produce two billion parts every year – worth up to £2.5m in potential new sales for the firm. David Spears, Brandauer MD, was delighted with the acquisi- tion. He said: “This year has started well, we’re winning new business in existing and new markets, including complex and larger component orders for the medical and renewable sectors.

A businessman who expanded a specialist preci- sion engineering company, Pailton
Engineering, during the recession has been named one of the Midlands’ top business people. John Nollett has been included in Insider Media’s prestigious 42 Under 42 Awards 2011 and he has been named International Entrepreneur of the Year. The award follows the com- pany being named Manufacturer of the Year in the Coventry Telegraph Business Awards. As Pailton Engineering MD Nollet steered the company through a 17 per cent expansion in 2010 on top of a seven per cent increase in 2009 through exploring new market opportunities such as the military and bus sectors.

New ENER-G MD
Sustainable energy business ENER-G has appointed Craig Allen as group managing director. Allen will be responsible for the development of manufactur- ing and supply chain functions across the business, including responsibility for cogeneration systems available for biogas applications.
Allen, 38, joins ENER-G from Magna Decoma, the automotive supplier where he was instru- mental in driving process improvements, operational per- formance and profitability.
