rco is proud to announce that it has retained its Big Tick status in Business in the Community’s

(BITC) 2011 Awards for Excellence, for its dedication to ethical supply chain management. As the UK’s market-leading distributor of safety clothing, equipment and industrial supplies,

the

reaccreditation underpins Arco’s belief that the health and welfare of its own people and those working for companies in its supply chain are of critical importance. The Big Tick award is the first level of award available to entrants of the national Awards for Excellence,

which recognises

inspirational programmes that are making a positive impact on the community, the environment or wider society. The Big Tick award, achieved by Arco in 2009, recognises companies that have shown innovation, creativity and sustained commitment to corporate responsibility. Reaccreditations are given to companies that can demonstrate the continuing positive impact of their award-winning initiative. In 2005 Arco was the first in the personal protective clothing industry to develop its own formal ethical policy, ensuring ethical trade plays a central part in its supply chain and trading strategy.

Advertorial

inding readily adaptable ‘off-the-shelf’ production management software for special machine building and jig and tool manufacture is not easy. Brown and Holmes (Tamworth), however, became the first jig and tool company to use the PSL DataTrack system, which has provided well- supported production control modules for the complex operation. Brown & Holmes (B&H) produces customised work holding fixtures and builds special production machinery. When the IT consultant who had developed in-house computer software to replace a paper-based system changed career, a new system was needed.

Production control was the key to the company’s

successful operation and PSL showed B&H some existing users of DataTrack production management and business administration software. It was seen that it could be easily tailored to B&H’s needs for an easy-to-learn system that would not stop day-to-day business during the learning period. This, and the flexibility of design of the software, resulted in the decision to purchase DataTrack.

afety Interlocking company Fortress Interlocks has added its new E1, Extracted Key Adaptor, to the amGard range of modular safety gate switch interlocks. The E1 has been designed to ensure that the door to hazardous machinery cannot be opened without removing the safety key, and the machinery cannot then be restarted until the key is returned.Fortress has achieved this by designing a mechanism that traps the actuator in the head until the key is removed which then allows the ‘gate’ to swing over the keyhole. While the actuator remains out of the head, the gate remains over the keyhole preventing the key being returned to the lock. E1 ensures a specific sequence of operation and can be stacked or combined with other adaptors; up to 5 key adaptors can be used in one configuration. E1 also provides a unique link to Fortress’ high

profile mechanical mGard range of interlocks. E1 works with access key and safety key adapters, amGard LOK or STOP bodies and is suitable for either hinged or sliding door applications. The modular arrangement of amGard allows customers to tailor and configure products to suit their application.
