These proposals met with the enthusiastic approval of property owners and traders.

As a result of the project, a local History Group has formed and among its other activities has designed a leaflet and children’s quiz – both based on the plaques and timeline. The group has even published a book: ‘Church Stretton through the Ages’.

The council is now exploring with local history enthusiasts the possibility of establishing a local heritage centre with a travel centre to let visitors know about all the attractions that the Shropshire Hills area has to offer. Church Stretton Heritage Project won the Environment and Culture category of the West Action for Market Towns Awards.
