from New Animal Productions, the indie producer behind the History channel film 102 Minutes That Changed America, which is regularly cited as set- ting the benchmark for 9/11 documen- taries. The 2008 film, the best-perform- ing special ever on History, offered uninterrupted, voiceover-free video from New Yorkers that witnessed events first-hand.
New Animal’s new doc for History is
1x2hrs 9/12: The Day After, chronicling events that took place in the days imme- diately after 9/11. A+E Television–distributed 102 Minutes... aired on numerous interna- tional channels including Channel 4 (UK), France 3, SBS6 (Netherlands) and ZDF (Germany).
“I think history is our place more than anyone’s and it is our place to address the tragic events of 9/11,” says Christian Murphy, senior VP, international pro- gramming and marketing at A+E Networks. “The news organisations do what they do, but in terms of having a deep, rich catalogue looking at the sub- ject, we have the best out there and have looked at it from many angles.” A+E has packaged its plethora of 9/11 programming for sale to international
broadcasters in the run up to the anniversary. Titles in the 15-title strong catalog include The Day the Towers Fell (Lou Reda Productions), I Missed Flight 93 (ABC News Productions) and Countdown to Ground Zero (Storyhouse Productions).
There are several new factual one-offs delivering just ahead of the anniversary. Titles include two-hour specials I Survived... 9/11 (NHNZ) and Disaster Diary: The Photos of 9/11 (Left/Right

Television). There are also new one- hour docs: Making of the 9/11 Memorial (Parrot Productions) and The Ghosts of 9/11 (September Films).
Mindful of the anniversary and uptick in demand, distributors are acquiring rights to 9/11 docs. Zodiak Rights has picked up two one-hour films that UK broadcaster Channel 4 will air during its anniversary coverage, 9/11: The Fireman’s Story and 9/11: ER. “It’s a significant anniversary and we
