DCD launches new factual division
International producer and dis- tributor DCD Media is launching a current affairs and factual divi- sion to produce fast turnaround documentaries.
The company has hired Dispatches and Cutting Edge director Marc Sigsworth (pictured) to head up the unit, which will produce documentaries and cur- rent affairs series out of its Welsh production arm Prospect Cymru. This comes after Channel 4 announced further investment for its nations and regions scheme as it looks to produce more program- ming outside of London.

Seduction in the City: The Birth of Shopping is the latest documentary to be distributed by French distributor Zed and is one of the key titles that the company is launching at the Discop programming market. The series is produced by Essential
Media and Entertainment, the Australian independent production company that has produced factual series including A Traveller’s Guide to the Planets for ABC (Australia) and National Geographic Channels in the United States,and Telfrance,the French production company behind Gendarmes for France 3. Seduction in the City: The Birth of Shopping tells the story of the rise of the department store, from its inven-

tion during the industrial revolution and how it has changed the way that people shop. It will look at famous stores includ- ing Bon Marche in Paris, Selfridges in London, Myers in Melbourne and Macy’s in New York. The 2x52mins series will include

News C4 renews Gypsy Weddings
British broadcaster Channel 4 has renewed hit reality series Big Fat Gypsy Weddings for a sec- ond season. The series was one of Channel 4's biggest ever fac- tual series with an average 9.1 million viewers and has been renewed for six new episodes. Firecracker Films, which pro- duces the series, is in the early stages of production for a 2012 launch. This comes after US cable network TLC announced the launch of a US version of the format.
