6 Manufacturers encouraged to widen their portfolios

The National Metals Technology Centre (Namtec) chief executive, Dr Alan Partridge, has urged businesses to reduce risks by joining several supply chains. He addressed 150 delegates at an event organised by Namtec on behalf of the Advanced Engi - neering and Materials Sector (AEM) in Doncaster recently. Dr Partridge spoke on the need for companies to diversify and

seek new markets in order to pro- tect against any future setbacks in particular sectors. “In today’s global marketplace, where unpredictable events or accidents can have a significant impact on a whole sector, it is absolutely vital for businesses to reduce the risks by joining sev- eral separate supply chains. This conference has been designed to give UK manufacturing compa-

nies the support they need to investigate new markets and widen their customer base.” Delegates were able to meet key players in a range of indus- tries and network with potential supply chain partners.

Exhibition space at the confer- ence was fully booked as busi- nesses and institutions also took the opportunity to exhibit. www.aemyorkshire.com

Award winners Spotlight on sensing technologies

The inaugural Sensing Technology show in 2010 was greeted by exhibitors and visitors alike as a huge success. It pro- vided a high quality of visitor enabling the exhibitors to discuss new projects and innovations on their stands and in many cases take orders at the show. This year’s event on 27-28 September, is shaping up to be even more success- ful with an increased number of exhibitors and pre-registered visitors already signed up. Among those who have already registered are Huba Control, Michell Instruments, Dewetron, PCB Piezotronics, Strainsense, Sensor Technology and STS Sensors. Sensing Technology 2011 provides: • A national event focused on sensors and sensing systems designed to resolve application challenges. • A comprehensive seminar programme presented in conjunction with the Electronics, Sensors & Photonics KTN. • An ‘innovation suite’ delivering an insight into the future world of sensing and its associated technologies. • A large ‘networking lounge’ created for use by both visitors and exhibitors alike. A visit to Sensing Technology will

enable you to make better informed pur- chasing decisions, link you with the manufacturers and suppliers who can solve your current technical, application, pricing and/or delivery problem, and provide an insight into future innovations allowing you to effectively plan your own product and application developments. With two dedicated seminar suites, you will be able to ‘pick n mix’ from a wealth of informative presentations. The Innovation Theatre will house some astounding innovations, many not yet commercially available but looking for business backing and application delivery. These innovations are a wel- come addition to the tried-and-tested products already available. Mike Neal of Huba Control said: “We

were extremely pleased with the two days of the inaugural show. The quality and quantity of visitors and enquiries was impressive. We’re looking forward to a bigger and better show in 2011.” This year seven co-located shows are forming the largest manufacturing event of the year with over 500 exhibitors. The events include Sensing Technology 2011, Interplas 2011, MM Live UK 2011, MEMS Live UK 2011, NANO Live UK 2011, tct Live 2011, PPMA Show 2011. www.sensingtechnology.co.uk www.themanufacturingevent.com
