New web site and 354 page handbook
devices, E2S, has completely updated its web site,
www.e2s.com and has simultaneously published a new 354-page handbook that follows the web site layout in its organisation, providing a hard copy alternative to the site. The web site is organised as a comprehensive resource centre that enables specifiers to search, in a logical and intuitive manner, for the most appropriate product for the application. The site is structured in three main cascading levels.
O application choice between hazardous areas,
The top offers the broad fire
and industrial applications and wide area signalling. Within each section, the next level shows an overview of the applicable products. Once the required product type is selected, the visitor is able to enter various different sort criteria - approvals held, output levels and product family for example to bring up the products that meet the particular search criteria. A compare capability is provided, making it easy for the specifier to evaluate alternative solutions.

einz is saving 6% of its average steam load per year at its baked bean factory in Wigan by recovering energy from effluent using a system designed and built by Spirax Sarco. Cooking British family favourite Heinz Beanz begins by blanching the raw haricot beans in hot water. Starches and sugars leach from the beans into the water and agricultural residues are washed off. The blanching water must be purged regularly to maintain the necessary quality. Before the new system was installed, the purged hot water was disposed of to drain, but the Spirax Sarco system now intercepts it and uses it to help heat the blanching process. The system recovers around 1,500kW. “It’s been in place for 18 months now and we are seeing excellent results from the heat recovery,” says Barry Aspey, Environmental Compliance Manager for Heinz. The filtered effluent is passed to one of two heat exchangers, which use its energy to pre-heat the blanching make-up water, cooling the effluent in the process.

The Gocator 2000 series of smart 3D sensors is designed to make industrial 3D measurements more affordable. The Gocator 2000 series of smart 3D sensors is designed to make industrial 3D measurements more affordable. Ease of use is said to be leveraged by the built-in web server as an effective graphical user interface (GUI) for rapid setup and control. Users can connect, set up exposure and speeds, visualise profiles, measure dimensions, select communication outputs and monitor results using Firefox, Internet Explorer, Chrome or Safari web browsers. This built-in web connectivity enables users to access the sensor from any PC without additional software, drivers, control boxes, amplifiers or dependency on a specific operating system.

ABB drives help achieve precise control
A
BB and Tatham Ltd, a specialist textile machinery company, have in response to industry demand developed the technology to provide higher production speeds with improved product weight distribution for crosslapper control. A crosslapper accepts a light weight fibre web from a carding machine and uses it to build up a heavier web in layers (known as a batt). The crosslapper overlaps the layers by means of a complex arrangement of conveyors and reversing mobile carriages that turn the material through 90 degrees. Typical end-products include automotive textiles, bedding, industry felts and filtration media. Tatham’s latest TSX control system utilises ABB high performance machinery drives and servomotors. Several panel combinations are available depending on the existing crosslapper configuration. The system is linked to the master process control using Profibus, an ABB AC500 PLC provides positioning data to the drives which convert it into control signals to maintain the speed of the servomotors.

- Illuminated Bezel Kits for Kiosk Printers now available
D
esigned by DED Limited, the D500 series of illuminated bezel kits is now available. A low cost add on for use with any printer than prints onto paper of up to 80mm wide, the D500 series kit not only draws the customers attention to the printed receipt on a kiosk, but also enhances the quality of paper output by enabling simpler routing of the paper / receipt through the case of the kiosk itself. Two mounting options are available – the first is the standard bezel on its own which can be mounted on the front of any printer which prints on paper up to 80mm wide as well as inside the kiosk. Two fixing points are provided. The second has been designed for use specifically with the Star Micronics TSP743 printer. This kit consists of the standard bezel mounted on an adaptor which is fixed directly on to the printer using a high strength adhesive pad. The kit takes its power from the peripheral drive (cash drawer) circuit and the power cable is included to make integration very simple.
