Live music sector shows green example
EAW KF740 under the bridge
EAW’S NEW KF740 line array has made its installation debut at a new live venue constructed underneath the stadium of Premiership football club, Chelsea. Furthermore, it has been revealed that this loudspeaker model was in fact custom designed specifically for this venue.
The 600-capacity venue, called Under The Bridge, is found beneath Chelsea FC’s Stamford Bridge ground, built on the site of the former Purple Nightclub. Close attention to detail and an extremely high specification were the
goals of the creative team, headed by concept designer Jim Cafarelli (of House of Blues fame), Ian Woodall (of XL Video) and Andrew Frengley (Matrix 9). Both Woodall and Frengley have
worked closely together in the past and it was the latter’s extensive experience of touring EAW systems for many years (while a director of premier rental company, Canegreen) that drove them to the brand. After ruling out an off-the- peg solution for the main PA, they approached EAW’s engineering guru, Kenton Forsythe, at Prolight + Sound
and charged him with developing a custom version of the KF730, with
additional drivers. >

THE LIVE music sector has been identified as a leader in green practices after environmental group Julie’s Bicycle awarded an unprecedented 14 Industry Green awards to festivals. This follows a mass
enrolment of music festivals to take part in Julie’s Bicycle’s scheme to help effectively measure and curb greenhouse gases.
Some festivals that have
been tackling sustainability issues for many years were able to measure improvements year-on-year, while most were able to at least set benchmarks to improve upon during the festival season. Julie’s Bicycle’s operations
director Catherine Langabeer has revealed that many festivals signed up to the programme before their events took place last year, which gave them time to put the proper systems in place to gather accurate statistics. “Over the best part of the
last year they have been working to get the data and establish the targets,” she said. Langabeer said the festivals
would be able to track their environmental performance against each other and that Julie’s Bicycle also planned to establish an industry average in the next couple of months. The organisation, which uses a complex set of tools to measure carbon emissions, energy, waste, water and audience travel, has also produced its first festival IG ranking based on a star
grading system. >
