Messe and NAMM collaborate to help audio pros tap Russian market
THE NEWmusic products tradeshow set to take place in Moscow next year, for which NAMM and Messe Frankfurt have joined forces, will help European audio professionals access a lucrative but tough market, according to Prolight + Sound director Michael Biwer. The wider Russian musical market
is potentially the largest in Europe, characterized by a large population of around 145 million people, developed musical culture, and sustainable growth trends over the last years. The Russian musical instruments and technologies market itself was valued at Euro 600 million in 2008. However, international manufacturers have traditionally faced difficulties taking advantage of these prospects for several reasons, not least the logistically daunting task of distribution in such a vast country. “This is a huge market, but it’s very
“
complicated to do business there,” explained Biwer. “Nevertheless, the audio brands are still very interested in the market and are looking for distributors to help them access it.

Frankfurt together are strong enough to make the first steps in to the Russian market. There is a lot of know-how on both sides when it comes to the organisation of such a trade show, which is why we’re joining forces on this. The NAMM Show is one of the biggest events for the pro audio industry in the US, and Prolight + Sound is the leading trade show worldwide in this industry. I think that next year we will launch with a bang in the Russian market and show that we can do the same thing
there. We will take care of our pro audio and lighting exhibitors as we do at our other shows and hopefully help them to forge new partnerships, not only with companies from the Russian industry, but also from Eastern European countries.” "As partners with Messe Frankfurt in this new venture, we look forward to serving our global NAMM membership by increasing the size of the market,” added Joe Lamond, president and CEO of NAMM.
Raid on UK counterfeiters yields record haul
INVESTIGATORS FROM Trading Standards Services (TSS), Britain’s consumer protection and investigation authority, carried out a raid that resulted in the seizure of hundreds of pieces of forged equipment, purporting to have been made by Sennheiser and Monster Cable – the largest number of counterfeits of this kind ever confiscated in the UK. Among the haul were wireless
microphone systems masquerading as models from Sennhesier’s Evolution range, indicating that the counterfeiters were in fact targeting the professional audio market. The raid, on what is being referred
to as ‘the premises of one of England’s largest online platforms’, took place in Portsmouth in February this year, but has only recently been made public, so as not to jeopardise the investigation.

We would like to thank the TSS for their vigorous intervention and their uncompromising protection of our intellectual property. With this intensive crackdown in England, we have succeeded in a very important mission designed to protect our intellectual property and consequently, the company, too.” In common with other leading

Recently, the firm initiated action against counterfeiters in the Far East, specifically in China.
