Leed the way
Good weather made way for real business at the PLASA Focus show this month. Andrew Low reports on how the friendly and comfortable setting brought together the North of England’s pro audio community…

he heart of the North of England’s Entertainment sector met for two relaxing, yet busy days at the PLASA Focus Leeds show last month. All of the show’s numbers rose for the third year in a row, as 130 exhibitors and almost 2,000 visitors attending the show at the Leeds Royal Armouries. that the comfortable atmosphere of the show made it easier to get actual deals done. The show’s seminar schedule was doubled in size from previous years with the addition of manufacturer led educational sessions, which saw the likes of Audio-Technica, Polar Audio, Nexo, and Shure touting their latest kit and concepts.
The educational section of the show remained busy during the show, and Dave Swallow’s seminar on The Art of Mixing a Show proved to be a thought-provoking discussion about the elements of live mixing that help deliver the best experience to an audience (see story on page 4).
Seminars by InfoComm, Beirg and The Royal Shakespeare Theatre were also a hit during the show. Many new and recently launched products were made available to UK visitors for the first time at Focus. Sound Technology, UK distributor of Soundcraft, was very successful with the new Soundcraft Si Compact. "We've seen massive interest in the Si Compact with all four demo consoles busy throughout the show,” commented Nick Boggon, marketing manager at Sound Technology. “The show gave visitors hands-on experience with the consoles that helped them see just how intuitively designed this compact digital console is.”
