NMK urges ME firms to learn from the past Dubai supplier warns companies in the Middle East against going for quick money and short-term gains

NICOLAS KYVERNITIS of NMK states that pro audio firms should use caution when dealing in the Middle East market and not devalue it by looking for quick gains. In an exclusive interview with

Audio Pro, the Dubai-based supplier explains that other firms have not faired well in the market: “Many of

the installers in Dubai were forced to let go of resources and others had to close up shop entirely. Many of them have looked outside the borders of Dubai, such as Abu Dhabi or Doha, for example. Some of the newcomers closed down and some that grew too big too fast had to consolidate. Things have taken a turn and the past few

months have seen several events keeping rental companies busy. “We are looking forward to the

future,” he continues. “Clearly, everyone is eyeing developments in Abu Dhabi and, especially, Qatar. These are long-term projects so everyone should not look at just making quick deals.”

Gadget Show pro day hailed a success

JUST UNDER 5,000 members of the UK trade visited this year’s Gadget Show Live professional day at the NEC in Birmingham. The line-up included pro audio firms

such as Shure, Sennheiser and Avid. Audio Pro International was an exclusive trade partner for the show. Over 250 tech companies exhibited their latest products to industry buyers and executives. Consumer attendance numbers for the event rose to an astounding 104,759, which amounted to a 50 per cent rise from 2010, with around 20,000 visitors walking through the door every day. Tickets sold out in a record-breaking 12 weeks, leading the show to add an extra consumer day, with an extended floorplan. Matt Hodgins, event head at Upper

Street Events, said: “The Gadget Show Live 2011 has proved to be an incredible event, with visitor numbers exceeding even our own expectations. The addition of GSL Professional has been an overwhelming success

www.audioprointernational.com NMK has strengthened its position

by establishing new endeavours with Claire Brothers and RSG. “The Middle East market is

unique in the sense that the area has vast capital to invest; however the market still has to catch up in terms of the number of people with the skill sets to operate the latest

solutions efficiently or to the fullest potential,” Kyvernitis states. “Various initiatives are helping to improve this such as the MECIA organisation with their affiliation with InfoComm and the courses they do. “The Middle East is a transient

society, which makes it difficult for firms to keep skilled resources.”
