VIDEO has perhaps emerged as one of the fastest communication tools ever to catch on. Perhaps this is because video has had a head start in the market. It’s been around for years. But the more likely motivator has been a conjunction of drivers such as the economy, technological stimuli, changing work patterns, productivity gains and a more productive engagement of the senses. For example,
videoconferencing shows the importance of face-to-face interaction, which suggests that business communication should be more than just a voice at the end of the line. This added dimension introduced by video plays into the eyes, ears and minds of end users. When receiving information with just one of our senses engaged in the comms process – a voice over the telephone – we may not be making the most of our receptive potential. But when sight and sound work together we have a powerful communication tool that demands greater engagement, increasing the transfer of information. Small wonder video has been deployed by forward thinkers as a key comms tool to explain new technology, set out strategies and sell concepts more effectively. This is just one of the reasons why Comms Dealer, as the leading publication in the voice and data channel, has taken a lead in bringing video and digital to the forefront of the channel’s thinking. After all, most of us prefer to watch TV rather than listen to a radio in our lounges.
