ANS bolsters services arm

MANCHESTER-based ANS Group has appointed Howard Johnson as Professional Ser- vices Director.

He joins from

the board of Alpha Business Computers, acquired by ANS in November 2010.

Johnson participated in the management buyout of Alpha in 2005 and was part of the team responsible for re-focusing the business to drive all SAN work around NetApp unified storage and VMware virtualisation. This led to a rise in turnover by 66% from £6m to £10m in 2006 and then a further 50% to £15m in 2010.

Johnson was also a prime mover in Alpha’s southern expansion in 2008, recruiting pre-sales and technical staff members, leading to Alpha win- ning NetApp’s Services Partner of the Year award in 2010. Johnson stated: “The rapid growth at ANS Group has seen the Professional Services department expand.”

Reseller builds calibre in videoconferencing

SOUTH West Communications Group has boosted its creden- tials in the videoconferencing space with a brace of accredita- tions bagged by a senior tech- nical specialist who passed examinations set by LifeSize and Alcatel-Lucent.

Brian Lodge, Group Engin- eering Director, stated: “We ensure our engineers’ profes- sional development is kept up to date so they can keep abreast of all the latest developments in communications technology. “We have recently gained Cisco Premier Certification to add to the long-term accredita- tions we have nurtured with our telephony and data services

partners, and we are proud to add videoconferencing exper- tise to our technical arsenal.” Lodge has observed among end users that videoconferenc- ing has become a vital business tool for multi-site meetings. He said: “Ever since we

began offering videoconfer- encing as one of our products, many of our existing customers have expressed an interest in this technology to help them save on substantial fuel and travelling costs, to make better use of their staff’s time and to reduce their carbon footprint.”
