new institute… a new magazine… and then came the fantastic news from the Privy Council that we have been granted a Royal Charter. It’s certainly been all go here at SportPark in Loughborough in the past few weeks. We will have to wait a few months
before we receive the Royal Seal and become offi cially incorporated as a Chartered Institute, but there is already plenty to celebrate. Achieving chartered status is the result of a lot of hard work by many people over a number of years – my thanks go to everyone involved. By creating a new professional body and
gaining chartered status we are sending out a strong message to the sports and physical activity sector. Finally, the industry has a recognised lead-body: one that will raise standards of training and qualifi cations; one that will guarantee new recruits have a clear career pathway to follow; and one that will facilitate benchmarking within the industry. We have answered those who thought
this day would not arrive. T e public launch is during the fi rst week of May and we’re determined that will be start of a process that sees us growing and broadening our membership base. We’re aware that now the hard work really begins. T ere will undoubtedly be many challenges
ahead, but we have proved to the highest authority in the land that we have what it takes to create a world-leading professional body. Enjoy our new magazine. Like the Institute
itself it, too, will be evolving in the next few months and years. We’re all looking forward to the journey!
