SUPERVISORY MANAGEMENT CERTIFICATE (SMC)


The role of the supervisor is crucial to the provision of good customer service in all organisations. Supervisors are responsible for the day-to-day performance of other staff, the wellbeing and safety of customers and staff, as well as the daily operation of the building. This requires a range of skills, knowledge and confi dence, combined with experience. IMSPA recognises the importance of this role


and has developed this qualifi cation for existing and aspiring supervisors. Each of the three units (Finance and Administration, Employment Practice and Sports Services Operations) is individually certifi ed, enabling candidates to enter the programme and progress at their own pace. The SMC can be studied either by attending three short courses or via distance learning.


oPeRations CeRtifiCate


This is an introductory Level 2 qualifi cation made up of 10 units. It is designed to provide sport and recreation assistants, fi tness instructors, pool attendants and other


frontline staff with essential core knowledge in sport and recreation service operation, enabling candidates to develop their vocational skills over a number of core subjects.


eVents management


CeRtifiCate (emC) Whether planning to organise a major sporting competition, an entertainment event, or a specialist event such as a dog show, the Event Management Certifi cate course provides the essential ‘tool kit’ for supervisors and management staff. This two-day course focuses on the operation of health and safety and legal requirements for events held at sport and recreation centres.


distanCe leaRning


This fl exible mode of studying is available for the Supervisory Management certifi cate and the fitness Management certifi cate. Students will be allocated an IMSPA-accredited tutor with the relevant industry and academic experience to support them through their studies. There is no time limit for the completion of distance learning courses, although it is recommended that the course is completed within 12 months.


FITNESS MANAGEMENT CERTIFICATE (FMC)


This course is for fi tness instructors and duty managers who are looking to progress to fi tness manager or club manager level. It provides an overview of

how a health and fi tness facility is managed from the design and technical considerations to operations and management, marketing


and member retention. The fMc can be studied by attending a two-day short course per unit, or is also available via distance learning.
