IMSPA/IQL LIFEGUARD TRIATHLON LAUNCH
T e IMSPA and IQL Lifeguard
SADDLED UP FOR ACTION
Another venue for the 2012 Games has been completed and test-ridden. The London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games (Locog) celebrated the completion of the mountain biking course at Hadleigh Farm in Essex by inviting riders from the GB cycling team to tackle the course. The course, set in picturesque farmland and a
country park, will play host to both the men’s and women’s Olympic Mountain Bike competitions on the 11 and 12 August 2012, with 80 cyclists competing for medals. Construction of the challenging 5km course – which features 500 tonnes of rock – began in July last year, and is ready in time for the test event scheduled to take place this July. Essex County Council is currently developing a legacy plan detailing how the venue will be used after the 2012 Games.
Triathlon competition will be running for the sixth time this month and, with a record 728 entries last year, it continues to grow in value as a benchmarking and motivational exercise for employees. With no Lifeguard
Championship this year organisers are hoping to attract more entries to this alternative competition, which requires your own trainer assessors to conduct the tests at your facility, at some point during May. At just £50 per facility,
and with a format that can fi t into standard training timetables, the Lifeguard Triathlon is
a highly cost-eff ective exercise that will challenge lifeguarding skills in the three key areas of swim, theory and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), converting performances into a score of up to 100 points.
