HARDI: Post-tax credit slump affects Jan. distributor sales


COLuMBus, OHiO— Heating, aircon- ditioning and Refrigeration Distribu- tors international announced that North american HVaC/R average distributor sales for January 2011 af- firmed the association’s concerns about a post-tax-credit slump follow- ing the tax credit cap reduction from $1,500 to $500. The January 1, 2011, cap reduction also included the impo- sition of a “lifetime cap,” barring pre- vious credit recipients dating back to 2006 from claiming credits for addi- tional energy efficiency improve- ments performed this year. HaRDi’s Monthly Targeted and Regional Economic News for Distri- bution strategies (TRENDs) report showed average growth for the month down nearly 12% from last


month’s strong 17.4% average growth rate. The running 12-month sales, however, improved for the sixth consecutive month, as HaRDi members continue to distance them- selves from the recession’s trough. Two u.s. HaRDi regions and Canada saw 2011 start with declines, but the Western region, which had struggled through most of 2010, was not among them, logging its third straight month of growth.
