Magneti Marelli leveraged its extensive automotive expertise in integrating complex systems and technologies for the vehicle envi- ronment. Wind River provided an integrated, tested and validated IVI software platform based on the GENIVI open source standard, as well as customisation and consulting services.


The emerging GENIVI industry standard aims to provide automo- bile manufacturers and their sup- pliers with a common underlying framework to simplify elements of the in-vehicle infotainment development process that have historically been duplicated across the industry.


Open source software creates a compelling option for Tier 1 sup- pliers to use as a foundation for IVI


devices because it provides greater flexibility and opportunities for innovation, especially in the areas of advanced in-vehicle informa- tion, entertainment and connectiv- ity. It also enables sophisticated navigation, telematic and multime- dia devices inside automobiles. “GENIVI provides an innovative platform that allows car manufac- turers to offer the next generation of connectivity and multime- dia services while retaining the distinguishing features that make up the essence of their brands,” said Alexander Kocher, vice president and general manger for automo- tive solutions at Wind River. “Starting with BMW, Wind River and Magneti Marelli are providing car manufacturers

Energy efficient water treatment


P


owerstax and DP Energy have provided a power solution for an electrochemical water- treatment system used to remove dissolved and suspended contam- inants from waste-water streams. The system was trialled at a manufacturer’s paintwork depart- ment, specifically reducing phosphate concentration in the waste water. By removing the requirement for chemical dosing and producing a smaller quantity of sludge for disposal, the technol- ogy offers major environmental and economic benefits.


Powerstax developed an effi- cient power solution to minimise energy consumption. The 20VDC/ 500A 19” rack mounted HF Power Source provided the end user with reversible current flow. The power supply offers external control of output voltage and current and output monitoring using 0-10V isolated analogue signals. Requiring a three phase, three wire supply (Public Low Voltage Network) input voltage of 400VAC, the power supply has a power factor typically >0.94 at full load and efficiency >88% (after power factor).
