Pocket-sized enclosure range extended The MINITEC range of pocket-size enclosures
from OKW has been extended and now consists of eight individual case sizes with dimensions ranging from 51 x 32 x 13mm to 84 x 53 x 19mm.
There are two basic designs: ‘DROP’ droplet style cases; and ‘EDGE’ rectangular style cases, which are now available in three larger sizes: length 78mm, width 48mm and heights of, 20, 24 and 26mm. The multi-coloured housings have been designed for personal elec- tronic devices which can be carried in the hand, on a key ring, wrist strap, or lanyard, with typical applications including medical devices, personal safety, detection, monitoring, emergency call, audio, alarm, and remote control electronics. Problems can occur when trying to ventilate control panels and electri- cal enclosures, especially when an efficient airflow is to be combined with a high IP
rating (IP54 or IP55) to protect critical electrical equipment. As a solution, Fandis has added G2 filter media inside its TP series roof ventilation units, resulting in an IP54 rating. There is also a gasket provided to
A subrack for harsh environments The KM6-HD subrack system
from Verotec is designed for use in rail, military, aerospace and other harsh environments where electronic equipment will be subject to shock and vibration. Manufactured as standard in 3U, 6U and 9U heights, depths of 160mm, 220mm and 400mm and in 42HP half and 84HP full widths,
the IEEE 1101.10/11
compliant 19” subrack features positive guide locking and reten- tion, heavy-duty front and rear tiebar extrusions with two screw

fixings, 3mm thick side plates and rack mounting angles, and a conductive finish.
The 160mm plastic guides are suitable for 1.6mm PCBs and are retained with a screw fixing. The ruggedised KM6-HD is fully compatible with all other KM6 subracks, enabling a single design to migrate from a standard subrack into the heavy duty version when required for different applications. Enter 247 Coatings to shield plastic medical enclosures
Conductive coatings and paints to address shielding requirements in the growing number of medical equipment applications that utilise plastic rather than metal enclosures, are available from Chomerics Europe. The choice of epoxy, acrylic and urethane coatings are well suited to use in the challenging operating environments often experienced by medical electronics equipment. Coating selection depends on the target application material. Materials such as CHO-SHIELD 2056, which consists of silver-plated-copper/silver
particles in a single-component acrylic resin, can be used at minimal thicknesses instead of processes such as vacuum metalisation and electroless plating. Shielding effectiveness levels of greater than 75dB can be achieved with silver fillers. Chomerics Europe

Rittal's new TopTherm fan and filter units use diagonal fan technology to provide an increased and more stable airflow, even with contaminated filters. Diagonal air flow offers a greater spread of air within the enclosure, thus reducing the possibility of hot spots, and has the effect of requiring fewer maintenance intervals for the replacement of filter mats.
