On 6-7th April, Mtec sensors, measurement & instrumentation, will be co-located with MEDTEC, 3C Contamination control & cleanroom products, and the new MDM – Midlands Design & Manufacturing

irmingham’s NEC is the venue for the co-location of a number of interesting shows this April. This year, Mtec Sensors, measurement & instrumentation will be running alongside MEDTEC, the newly formed MDM – Midlands Design & Manufacturing – and 3C Contamination control & cleanroom products. Taking place on 6-7th April, the exhibitions will bring together com- panies showcasing the latest products and technologies.

Introducing MDM 2011

The Midlands Design & Manufacturing show is devoted to engineering and manufacturing in the Midlands region, and the exhibitors are those that supply the British manufacturing industry with technology and services such as automation equipment, vision systems, subcontract manufacturing services, CNC and EDM Machining Centres, leak testing equipment, electronic components, etc. According to the organisers, this will cover a variety of vertical markets, including Aerospace, Medical, Automotive, Defence, Rail and Telecommunications markets. There are many companies exhibit- ing here, with one example being igus. The company will be displaying new additions to its maintenance-free polymer bearing ranges, which include iglidur plain bearings, igubal spherical bearings and DryLin linear bearings. In addition, examples of E-Chain cable carriers and Chainflex continuous-flex cables will be on show. Visitors will be able to see the DryLin WJRM, a new breed of hybrid linear bearing that both rolls and slides, and is suitable for applications such as manually adjustable doors, guards, partitions and locks, as well as for light handling tasks.

On display at the NEC for the first time is an innovative mechanism that allows quick positional adjustment of the slide on a trapezoidal lead screw drive – the DryLin ‘Fast Forward’. The company will also be showing such products as the TwisterBand TB20 com- pact energy chain system and Guidelok, a horizontal guiding system for use in the machining industry, particularly where unsupported travels of up to 50m are required and metal chip debris makes a gliding system difficult. Misumi will be displaying product examples, including steel shafts

for linear movement, rotary shafts, hinge pins and pivot pins, connection components, straight and crowned rollers, rack gears, washers and col- lars. It will also be showing fixed and floating bearing housings, spindle nuts, digital positioning indicators, levers, handwheels, handles and knobs, stopping bolts, clamping screws and bolts, G manifolds, Vi guide systems, and much more. The European Powder Metallurgy Association (EPMA) will be promoting the advantages of using components made by the powder metal process, with its stand featuring components and products made from powder metal. The EPMA will be showcasing the ben- efits of choosing Powder Metallurgy (PM). Staff will be on hand during the show to discuss any questions surrounding selecting powder metal- lurgy products and suppliers. The new Precision Ring Track PRT2 will be displayed by HepcoMotion. comprises ring slides, ring segments, bearings and ancillary components to suit the majority of rotary and track system applications and introduces a substantially expanded range of sizes. The company will also be showing the MCS aluminium framework system that accommodates any combination of the company’s linear motion products. Industrial vision cameras such as the latest multi- and single-point inspection systems from DALSA and the CVS Image Station Compact EOS-1000 will be displayed by Stemmer Imaging. The CVS Image Station Compact EOS-1000 is an embedded computer system for industrial imaging applica- tions that combines high performance computing capability with four indi- vidual gigabit Ethernet camera ports, each featuring Power over Ethernet technology. The EOS-1000 is housed in a compact, robust housing designed to withstand vibrations up to 5G and is suitable for any industrial automa- tion application including 3D vision robotic guidance. Alrad Imaging, meanwhile, will be

displaying products from its machine vision and industrial imaging camera line, frame grabbers, lighting and lasers. On display will be the latest linescan cameras from e2v, like the AViiVA EM4, and some of a wide range of frame grabbers and intelligent cameras from Matrix Vision. The recently introduced mvBlueFOX-MLC module is a fully featured compact single-board camera perfectly targeted for space and cost sensitive OEM applications. Bronkhorst, meanwhile, will be showing the Coriolis product range. Measurement ranges commence in the thousands of kilograms per hour and now extend down to full scale ranges of less than one gram per hour. The further enhanced Cori-Fill technology adds yet more features to direct control of valves and pumps for the dosing, filling and batching of fluids. Another exhibitor is Byrnemech, a company that provides a complete concept-to-component service for sheet metal including design, manufacture, paint, print, assembly, delivery and support. The company has invested heavily in the latest robotic technology to complement its low-cost base and re-engineering capabilities. Visitors to Delta Line’s stand will be able to find out about products for use as either single motion products within an application or as a complete system for the required motion solution. Products include: DC and BLDC motors; disc magnet, hybrid or tin can stepper motors; spur gear, planetary and customised gearboxes; linear actuators; encoders and intelligent drives for DC, BLDC or stepper motors.

Mtec 2011

Mtec is an exhibition covering the latest in control, instrumentation, sensor & measurement technologies, and will have exhibitors showing a diverse range of products and equipment. For a start, visitors to Nitto Kohki’s stand will be able to find out about its pumping solutions product range, and see its most recent liquid pumps. The first is the Bimor pump. This has no moving parts and flow is created with the use of a ‘bimorph’ – two parallel piezoelectric wafers that expand and contract in line with the sine wave on the supply voltage. The Bimor is said to run on an exceedingly low current, emits virtually no electromagnetic field, no vibration,
