Products Technology file Lightweight gas spring solves design problems
A lightweight aluminium gas spring from Bansbach, available in the UK from Albert Jagger, is said to have more than a 50% reduction in weight when compared to a standard gas spring of similar specifications. There is a weight of 120g for a typical spring with a Ø8mm piston and Ø20mm cylinder with a 150mm stroke when compared to a heavier 250g for a standard steel gas spring of similar dimensions. Forces between 30 and 500 newtons are available with stroke dimensions ranging from 10 to 300mm.
This new gas spring shares the same key design features as the standard range of Easylift gas springs, such as excellent corrosion resistance, prolonged product life cycle, and extremely low breakaway friction forces achieved through a combination of a super smooth, anodised surface treatment to the piston and a sealing design with an integral grease chamber, which also allows fitment in any plane. According to the company, this product will help design engineers solve key problems with weight critical applications as component weight can play a major role during the design process, particularly in military, aerospace or medical environments. Ball-guided profile rails for many applications
Thomson has extended its range of linear guides with the addition of new ball-guided profile rails from the 400 series.
The company has adjusted the installation sizes and hole pat- terns to meet general industry standards, meaning that the new series can be used as a direct replacement for existing systems. Advantages include simple installation, increased accuracy with continuous rails up to 4m, smooth low noise movement, a range of carriage designs and sizes, and modular designs that can be modified on-site.
The 400 series is suitable for applications in the field of indus- trial automation, pick and place applications for materials han- dling and transport technology, as well as installation in industrial robots, food processing plants and packaging industry systems. Thomson

www.albert-jagger.co.uk Range of manual translation stages
Now available from Heason Technology is a range of manual translation stages for linear and rotary multi-axis micropositioning applications. The modular Mini Stage range, from GMT Global, includes a diverse selection of bearing technologies, mounting/ assembly configurations and build specifications that allow a flexible choice for each individual micropositioning task and com- bine for a very cost-effective overall solution.
Complete photonics or bio-lab set-ups can be quickly and efficiently assembled with the
broad selection of accessories available, claims the company. The new linear stages are available with cross roller, linear ball and dovetail slide bearings with typical travel from 13mm to over 100mm. Offering the best positioning sensitivity, load bearing capacity and rigidity, the cross roller bearing versions have anodised aluminium construction and are supplied in horizontal or vertical single-axis configurations, or as dual X-Y mounted assemblies. The linear ball bearing range has stainless steel construction and single or X-Y configuration. The dovetail linear slide range has a high rigidity for general purpose manual positioning and is sup- plied with a threaded screw or jack and pinion drive options. Rotary stages are available in precision grades up to 125mm. Heason Technology T: 01403 755800

Enter 240 Linear units enable greater automation flexibility
To enable greater automation flexibility, Rose+Krieger has launched the RK DuoLine linear units, which are supplied with a spindle or timing belt. The DuoLine generation begins with the 160 x 100 size corresponding to the length of the edge on the guide profile in mm. According to the company, it is no longer necessary to think about which side the motor should be positioned – optional coupling and motor adapters can be attached to all four hollow shaft outputs on the idler unit. Features include spindle support for increased rotational speeds, and a vmax of 2m/s with stroke lengths of around 5m is possible. These also have an enclosed ball rail system that provides an efficiency rating above 85% on the spindle variant and brings the no-load torque for the timing belt variant down to 2.5Nm.
All variants are magnetically sealed with a steel band increasing the protection rating to IP40. Phoenix Mecano

The technically advanced ROBA- capping head from Mayr Power Transmissions is based on the patented ROBA-contitorque hys- teresis clutch, which has been used successfully in various applications for more than ten years to provide torque in a con- tactless and wear free manner. Due to the constant, impact- free, slip torque, hysteresis capping heads are much better suited for sealing plastic and non- returnable glass bottles than per- manent magnet or friction heads, states the company. The stainless steel capping head components are designed to be low wear. Mayr Transmissions T: 01535 663900

Highly efficient workpiece clamping
For exact machining of thin- walled rings on rotary tables, cylindrical grinding machines and turning centres, Schunk has enlarged its program for highly efficient workpiece clamping. Now available is a wide range of standardised magnetic chucks with a radial pole pitch. The MAGNOS radial pole plates are electronically activated per- manent magnets that are proven
for hard and fine turning, as well as grinding and rough machining operations.
The electro-permanent mag- netic clamping technology has been proven to drastically reduce set-up times – the workpiece can be machined from three sides without changeovers or addi- tional set-ups. Since the mag- netic fields of the radial pole plates are active up to the outer fringe areas, even extremely large workpieces can be clamped securely and deformation-free. Depending on the individual application, three different sizes of standardised radial pole plates are available. Schunk Intec
