no noise, no fluctuations in flow and because there are no motors, shafts or other intricate mechanisms, it is light, quick and durable. Another new product is the DPE pump, a new range of DC-powered liquid diaphragm pumps that includes a patented pulse-absorption system offering a much smoother flow as needed for high accuracy gas and environmental monitoring systems. TDK-Lambda UK will launch many new and innovative power supplies that address the specific needs of the medical, industrial, broadcast, tele- coms, test & measurement and factory automation markets. Among those highlighted during the show is the GWS series of ‘green’ power supplies that complies with the energy saving requirements of Energy Star and the ErP (Energy related Products) Directive by having a no load input power consump- tion that remains below 0.5W. RDP Electronics will be showing the latest developments in sensor technology. Its transducer range includes load cells, pressure sensors, LVDTs, torque and magnetostrictive transducers complete with instrumen- tation and measurement software. Kobold Instruments is celebrating its 21st birthday of servicing the needs of UK industry with innovative process instrumentation products, and will be displaying products such as switches, sensors and meters for moni- toring and controlling parameters such as flow, level, pressure, temperature, and analysis, as well as ancillaries such as valves. Furthermore, Heinrichs of Cologne, part of the Kobold family of companies, celebrates its 100th anniver- sary in 2011 – so, the stand will feature many of its flowmeters.
As a supplier of sensor solutions for 37 years, those visiting Rhopoint Components’ stand will see a range of products, including RTDs, PT1000 and thermocouples. The company offers a wide range of pressure sensing with pcb 100psi to high precision 0.02%FS 55000psi transducers in both gauge and absolute, and with high grade materials. Humidity sensors, both resistive and capacitive, are also available in addition to an extensive range of passive and active components. Bruker will be exhibiting its AcuityXR optical surface profiler mode, that enables select ContourGT non- contact 3D optical surface profilers to break the optical diffraction limit and deliver lateral resolutions that were previously considered impossible to achieve. According to the company, many nanoscale applications in the semiconductor, medical and precision machining fields have miniscule surface features and defects with dimensions that limit detection or iden- tification. Using the optical profiler,

systems equipped with the new AcuityXR mode have shown resolution of features below 130nm in width. Precision encoder products will be displayed by Renishaw, including the RESOLUTE absolute optical encoder that is capable of 1nm resolution at speeds up to 100m/s, and a new compo- nent level magnetic encoder. The company will be showing new additions to the popular TONiC range of incremental optical linear and rotary encoders including a 1nm resolution option, UHV compatible formats, and a Dual Signal interface (DSi) version. Other optical encoders displayed include the SiGNUM RESM angle encoder, which offers accuracy, resolution and repeatability even at high speeds and high temperature environments. Visitors will also see the RoLin component level magnetic encoder for the first time in the UK.
The MEDTEC event
MEDTEC is a conference and exhibition focusing on medical device design and manufacturing. The conference will provide medical device profes- sionals with insights into all the key topics of the day – from regulation, intellectual property, risk manage- ment and process validation to innovation and project management – plus a full day devoted to the role of materials and coatings in 21st century product development.
In addition, delegates will be able to hear a Keynote Address from NASA on how space-borne technolo- gies are now finding their way into advanced medical devices and appli- cations – as well as practical advice on project management, clinical investigations and design validation from medical giants such as DePuy, Biotronik and GE Healthcare. Here, Distrupol will be showcasing its full portfolio of engineering and commodity thermoplastics. All medical polymers offered by the company are compliant with the requirements of one or more of US Pharmacopeia (USP), or ISO cytotoxicity or FDA approvals or Drug Master File (DMF) listings. Central to the presentation will be product offerings from four key material suppliers: DuPont; ELASTO; INEOS NOVA; and INEOS Olefins & Polymers Europe.
Also being displayed are Loctite adhesives from Henkel, which are suit- able for the production of medical

devices. Medical specialists will be on the stand to demonstrate the range of instant and light cure adhesives that comply with ISO 10993 or are USP Class VI approved. The company will also be showing robotic benchtop equipment and dispensing units, and the UV Curing Station will be on display. Intertronics will be displaying its expertise in adhesives for disposable medical device manufacturers. For example, it will be showing the THINKY mixing range, a Fisnar 4200 benchtop dispensing robot, and a DYMAX LED Prime UVA lamp demon- stration curing ISO 10993 adhesives. Two ranges of its fluid control compo- nents will be shown by Lee Products. Industrial microhydraulic (IMH) components comprise check valves, Betaplugs, safety screens, shuttle valves and restrictors for high volume, low cost applications in automotive, industrial and medical markets. Press-in check valves for installation into plastic mani- folds; restrictors in Luer adaptors; check valves, restrictors and relief valves in disposable plastic fittings. The company’s electro-fluidic systems comprise miniature chemi- cally-inert,
solenoid valves and

pumps, nozzles, tubing, fittings and manifold systems for medical and scientific instruments and ink jet printing applications. Visitors to The Metal Improvement Company will be able to to find out how its precision surface treatments can enhance the performance and extend the life of medical devices, tools and equipment; and ODU will be showing its range of electrical connectors for use in the medical industry. The Springmasters Group will be showing products such as wire forms, clips, disc springs, hose clamps and circlips. In addition, Suspa, a manufac- turer of gas springs, hydraulic dampers and lift-systems, will be exhibiting. Also at the event will be Medical & Partners, which will be displaying a non-invasive hemogram analyser that allows a complex test of the state of a patient’s organism in 180 to 720 seconds. In addition, Vaisala will be displaying its new HUMICAP humidity and temperature transmitter HMT120 designed for humidity and temperature monitoring in cleanrooms and demand- ing HVAC applications.
