Eggle returns to first love of electrics Patrick James Eggle badgered into making first electric guitar – The Lizard – for nearly 20 years

FOR THE FIRST time since his departure in 1994 from the Patrick Eggle company he co- founded in 1989, Patrick James Eggle will be building solid body electric guitars in his Oswestry workshops and offering them for sale in the UK. For the launch, Eggle is only building 20 of these exclusive, set-neck instruments, which he has Christened The Lizard. The bodies are Honduran mahogany and are being capped with what the luthier describes as “some really outstanding pieces of walnut, maple and redwood”. The 30-year-old Brazilian rosewood fingerboards are hand-inlayed with a lizard featuring over 200 pieces of shell and wood. “We found a source for shell scales – black, abalone, and the

like – and each scale reflects light slightly differently,” explained Eggle. “We’re going to glue each scale in individually, so we can mix the patterns and the end result is a an image that shimmers. It’s a fantastic effect.” The guitars will be modern double-cutaway designs, flat, drop-topped and will house two custom wound humbuckers, made by Bulldog. “I spent some time with Hayden Minett at Bulldog and we’ve come up with a winding that is not really a pure humbucker – there is a slight imbalance. This results in a sound that is ballsy and fat, but that loses none of the resonance that I’m after. “I’ve been asked repeatedly over the years by admirers of the early designs to bring out

electrics again, now I feel the time is right to put a toe back in the water with this limited and special guitar,” Eggle told MI Pro. “To be honest, I’m a little nervous about this,” he concluded. “It’s a bit like that ‘difficult second album’. Making electrics again is very dear to me and I am determined to get it absolutely right. I decided that 20 was a good number and I’ll look at the situation again in about a year.” The guitars will retail at £4,995 from select stores, such as Jeff Pumfrett’s World Guitars (Pumfrett was one of the badgerers who convinced Eggle into making electrics again) and direct from the luthier. Peck leaves Yamaha for Steinberg role

YAMAHA MUSIC UK has announced that Peter Peck, the pro music division’s product manager for music technology, will be leaving the MI giant’s UK arm and taking up the role of sales manager for German software developer Steinberg. Yamaha bought Steinberg in 2005 and the two companies have been working together for the development of Steinberg software within Yamaha hi tech products ever since.

(An example of this is the Motif series of synthesizers, a product Peck has worked closely on over the years.) “It is with some sadness that I have have to announce this,”

said Richard Hodgson, the director of the pro division at Yamaha. “Peter has been with us for 19 years, but the good news is that he is joining Steinberg. We hope to be able to maximise our sales opportunity through a closer working relationship with Steinberg and above all, we wish Peter great success in his new role.” The response from the trade, as seen on the MI Pro website where the news was first announced, has illustrated the popularity Peck has achieved within the UK’s MI trade. steinberg.net. Guitar Nation heads to Wembley

GUITAR NATION is moving to Wembley Stadium for this year’s event scheduled for November 26th and 27th. “We are so excited that Guitar Nation is moving to Wembley,” the show’s organiser, Clive Morton enthused to MI Pro. “It is truly amazing and has 5,000 square metres of space spread over three floors plus over 30 clinic room and sound rooms available for demo use. “We had an overwhelming

response from exhibitors which made me feel that other options simply didn’t seem right for the guitar industry. “The move to Wembley

makes so much sense. Wembley was always a fantastic location for the previous London Guitar Show and the stadium is a near perfect venue for the show.” MUSIC NATION: 01572 757775
