EDITORIAL
What’s Up With the New Look? A
s you can see, this month’s MODERN CASTING looks a little different. We have
redesigned the magazine to refresh it and provide you, our reader, with a more user-friendly product. For this redesign, we worked
with a professional creative team who helped us transform the magazine. We debated fonts, eyebrows, folios, captions, justification, leading, tracking, trapped white space and many other design and layout issues. We made mock-ups of various covers, features and departments. We also tested various designs with past articles to ensure new designs and styles would fit. Te end result is what you are holding in your
hands and what you will re-
ceive every month in the future. Te last redesign for MOD-
ERN CASTING was in De- cember 2001. Back then, we were adjusting the magazine to try to catch up to the way the web was reshaping how we deliver and receive information. Te current redesign also was affected by the web, but from a more complementary perspective. We always have viewed the print magazine and our web- site as brother and sister information resources as
moderncasting.com works to deliver you, our reader, additional information beyond what is in print. Tis redesign throughout the feature pages, table of contents and various departments is focused on highlighting that fact to an even greater extent as we continue to deliver opportunities for more informa- tion online. As you review the new layout, be on the lookout
for a few other things: • Heavier use of graphics—Our goal is to deliver
better artwork and graphics to let them tell the story as much as the words. Consumer maga- zines have always relied on artwork to a greater extent than trade magazines, but we are working to bridge the gap with the magazines you find at the newsstand.

• Lighter, airy font—This choice makes the words on the page easier to read. This means you can read the entire issue of MODERN
CASTING in less time. • Inviting cover design—Tak- ing another cue from con- sumer magazines, our covers are going to provide you with more information about what is inside each issue. Our goal is to draw you further in each month by telling you every- thing that is a must read. In the coming months, we
will continue to roll out more advances in design and content, building upon the foundation established by this redesign. Once you have had the
opportunity to review the new look of MODERN CASTING, please send us an email with your thoughts and comments. It is our pleasure each month to deliver to you the latest news, advancements and technical
breakthroughs in the metalcasting industry—now we can do so in a prettier package.
