Lady Washington Summer Sail Expeditions In San Juan Islands

The tall ship Lady Washington is

inviting families and youth to sail in the wakes of explorers George Vancouver, Robert Gray, and Charles Wilkes, and explore the San Juan Islands this summer. Joined by her companion ship Hawaiian Chieftain, guests aboard Lady Washington will spend five days sailing into remote coves, hiking little known trails, and learning about the islands’ flora and fauna during this one-of-a-kind adventure July 11-15. Guests will depart from Anacortes

and set sail for the archipelago, which lies between Vancouver Island and the U.S. mainland. Participants learn to raise a sail, stand watches, and take the helm, as well as learning how to sail (and row) the ships’ longboats. At each remote stop, the captains send out an expedition to explore the island with trained naturalists. The Lady Washington will host

families with children aged five to high school for its 2011 Expedition Voyage. Hawaiian Chieftain will welcome youth aged 11-17 on its Voyage. Tickets may be purchased online at

www.historicalseaport.org or by calling 800-200-5239. For details on what to bring, call 800-200-5239.
