“Around The Americas - The Expedition” March 30

The once in a lifetime voyage of the

crew and scientists who sailed “Around the Americas” on the 64-foot cutter Ocean Watch will be featured at a presentation this spring in Ballard. Captain Mark Schrader will host a benefit scholarship program for Ballard High School’s Maritime Academy at the Leif Erikson Hall.

Ocean Watch’s remarkable sea voyage

Around the Americas began in Ballard in June of 2009 and returned in June of 2010. Around the Americas was a 28,000 mile sailing circumnavigation of the American continents with the mission of inspiring, educating, and engaging the citizens of the Americas to protect our fragile oceans. Relive with Schrader the trials and

tribulations of the voyage, the study of the problems and challenges of melting ice, farm fishing algal blooms, and poisonous shellfish. Thirteen countries, fifty-three ports in 382 days. The program is the final segment of The Great Decisions program sponsored by The Ballard Public Library, Secret Garden Books, and the Viking Bank. The donation per ticket is $25. Special student rate: 2 for $25. Leif Erikson Hall, 2245 NW 57th

St. Ballard, WA, Wednesday, March 30, 6:30 pm. Reservations and tickets are available at Secret Garden Books, email: bookshop@secretgardenbooks.com or phone (206) 789-5006. The Viking Bank, Tel: (206) 784-2200, email: gdecsballard@gmail.com
