hexylthiophene) was constructed. The device showed distinct “ON” (0.15 pA) and “OFF” (17 pA) states with fast and reversible switching responding to outside illumination. The current of the photo- detector exhibited a strong dependence on light intensity, indicating superior photocurrent capabi- lity of the hybrid material. Furthermore, the hybrid photodetector also showed an outstanding stability and no obvious degradation was observed during extended hundreds of cycles. The high sensitivity and stability of the hybrid device revealed a broad prospect for use of the hybrid material in light detection, signal magnification, and energy conver- sion.

Researchers from France, Netherlands, Canada, UK, Russia and Germany present experiments in which metastable xenon atoms were ionized with intense 7-micrometer laser pulses from a free-electron laser. Holographic structures were observed that record underlying electron dynamics on a sublaser-cycle time scale, enabling photoelectron spectroscopy with a time resolution of almost two orders of magnitude higher than the duration of the ionizing pulse. © Science Magazine
