State DNP-NMR system, based on an ultra-high field NMR system. Dynamic Nuclear Polarization (DNP) has been shown to greatly increase solid-state NMR sensitivity for numerous bio-solids and advanced materials research applications. Based on Bruker’s proven 263 GHz Solid State DNP-NMR system, this new development aims to double the field strength at which commercial DNP-NMR can be performed, in order to deliver the highest sensitivity in solid state NMR. The expected enhancements will open new frontiers in structural biology and membrane protein research.


Furthermore, Bruker announced at the Materials Research Society (MRS) Fall 2010 Meeting the release of a new generation of Atomic Force Microsco- py (AFM) modes and measurement modules that transform Bruker’s AFM systems into turnkey solu-


tions for nanoscale characterization in renewable energy research. The most significant of these new AFM accessories, the PeakForce TUNA™ module, enables very high resolution nanoelectrical characte- rization on fragile samples, including organic photo- voltaics, lithium ion battery composites, and carbon nanotube-based device structures. he FlexTech Alliance, focused on developing the electronic display and the flexible, printed elec-


tronics industry supply chain, has awarded a contract to Cambridge NanoTech to develop a high-speed Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) system. When completed, the system will enable the manufacture of large-area and flexible substrates for use in orga- nic electronics, solar cells, biomedical devices, and displays.


The high-speed ALD system is targeted to operate at the high volumes necessary for commercial roll- to-roll practices. ALD is an ideal coating technology because of its perfect, conformal, ultra-thin films that are scalable to large-area substrates. ALD simultane- ously offers excellent thickness uniformity, film den- sity, step coverage, interface quality, and low tem- perature processing, making ALD beneficial for both roll-to-roll flexible substrates and rigid substrates. “We are honored to be selected by the FlexTech Alliance to industrialize ALD and bring it to the forefront of thin film technology,” said Ray Ritter, COO of Cambridge NanoTech. “This exciting, new
