Nearly 60% of tanning business owners anticipate larger client bases in 2011 than what walked through the doors in 2010, according to a SmartTan.com poll conducted in January.

According to the survey, 59% expect larger client counts this year, while 20% see client numbers remaining about the same. Only 21% in the poll expected client numbers to decrease in 2011.

“Even with all the challenges facing the market, optimism is still ruling,” says Smart Tan Vice President Joseph Levy. “With the economy turning, steady job growth on the horizon and capital positions stronger than they’ve been in several years, there are plenty of reasons to be optimistic.”

Giuliana Rancic The natural ‘D’

New research showing how the body actually metabolises vitamin D supports the claim that sun exposure to the skin is the only natural and reliable way to process natural and intended levels of the ‘sunshine vitamin.’

The Vitamin D Council - an independent non-profit organisation - cites new research on its website showing the body’s natural and intended vitamin D level - 50ng/ml. The council founder, Dr. John Cannell, points out that vitamin D researchers have shown that the human body does not start storing vitamin D in fat and tissue until vitamin D blood levels reach at least 40ng/ml for most people. At 50ng/ml, almost everyone starts storing the sunshine vitamin.

Those who work outdoors are said to have the highest vitamin D levels, however, indoor tanners also have high vitamin D levels at 42-49ng/ml on average. That’s 90% higher than the rest of the population, according to Boston University research.

In a recent poll of E! News presenter Giuliana Rancic’s favourite bronzer products of all time, she voted Infinity Sun Glow on the Go her number one choice.

Glow on the Go bronzing spray is part of the Infinity Sun salon product range recently launched in Ireland. Infinity Sun products complement the tanning regime with a sumptuous pineapple exfoliant to be used before a tan. The bronzing spray keeps the tan topped up inbetween tanning sessions and the Extend moisturiser lotion with a hint of tan maintains the tan and revitalises colour.

In the past few months, an increasing number of salons have been upgrading their systems to Infinity Sun, with recent launches in Dublin, Navan and Laois, and across the UK in Edinburgh, London, Hampshire and Milton Keynes, with several new locations on the way.

Brendan Molloy, Managing Director, says: “This is a very exciting time for Infinity Sun and we are looking forward to working with salons across Ireland in launching more flagship salons in 2011.”
